Toronto—December 12, 2008—After almost 60 years in the men's outerwear business, the family-owned company has decided to wind down operations in an orderly fashion in the second half of 2009.

"This is a sad decision for our company and our family," says Martin Glick, the son of founder Morris Glick. Morris together with his brother, Max Glicksman founded Mac Mor in 1950. 

With Max passing away last year and Morris being very ill, their children have had to decide whether they wished to continue the business. With some reluctance they have concluded that the wisest course of action would be to close. True to Max’ and Morris’ original vision, Mac Mor has always prided itself on providing excellent quality men’s outerwear at reasonable prices.

"The shift in the industry to the import of low cost foreign goods has meant domestic production has become uncompetitive," said Harry Glicksman. "And, while the company has enjoyed some success with our import programs, the loss of control over quality has proved troubling."

The business has proved to be too small to allow for the establishment of the foreign infrastructure needed to ensure quality from its foreign suppliers satisfactory to Mac Mor’s standards.

Commitments will be Honoured

"We want to assure all our customers and suppliers that Mac Mor intends to honour all Spring 2009 orders and commitments," continues Glick, who expects the process to take approximately 6 to 8 months.  

Mac Mor will complete the spring season in its entirety (without replenishing “in stock” programs) and conduct a very limited fall season. All orders that have been placed or are accepted going forward will be shipped, all payables and debt obligations will be honoured, and employees that are sadly being let go will be dealt with fairly according to prevailing laws and regulations.
